GOD’S DIVORCE AND REMARRIAGE A Study of God’s Marriage to
Israel under the First Covenant, at Sinai, Their Divorce Due to Israel’s
Adultery, And their Restoration Under the New Covenant Established by
Yeshua/Jesus. Would you be surprised to learn the Old Covenant was not a
collection of dos and don’ts but was a marriage contract between God and
Israel? Would you be surprised that the New Covenant is not a doing away with
God’s laws but rather establishing a new marriage contract with Israel?
Understanding these two terms is incredibly important for they are at the very
heart of our faith. Failure to understand these two terms has created an untold
number of strange doctrines some which have resulted in catastrophes. Some
people claim the “old covenant” laws and commandments were done away with –
even nailed to the cross. Others claim to be “New Testament Christians” only –
referring to teaching exclusively from the corpus of the New Testament books.
The difference between the two testaments is actually very simple to
illustrate: Imagine if you cancelled your cell phone contract with company A. A
month later you change your mind and establish a new contract with the same
company. Your terms and conditions are the same, but the contract is different.
This is the same idea between the two testaments: the terms and conditions are
the same (the laws and commandments) but the contracts are different.
