WHERE DID THE HOUSE OF JOSEPH/ISRAEL GO?

WE KNOW WHAT HAPPENED TO THE HOUSE OF JUDAH - BUT WHERE DID THE HOUSE OF JOSEPH/ISRAEL GO?

Nuggets from Zechariah, Dr. DOUG HAMP MINISTRIES comment on Commonwealth Theology post http://commonwealththeology.com/the-oracle-of-damascus-messiah-judah-ephraim/

Proof of the Dispersion of the House of Israel in the Book of Zechariah

God promised to bring back the house of Israel whom he had scattered to the nations in the book of Hosea. Some people believe that the house of Israel was assimilated into the house of Judah and then when they came back from the Babylonian captivity that the prophecy had been fulfilled. Yet, evidence from the book of Zechariah proves otherwise.

Zechariah was the prophet to the house of Judah after the Babylonian captivity and yet, there is still a clear distinction made between the house of Judah and the house of Israel (Ephraim).

“I will strengthen the house of Judah, And I will save the house of Joseph. I will bring them back, Because I have mercy on them. They shall be as though I had not cast them aside; For I am the LORD their God, And I will hear them. (Zech 10:6)

Those of Ephraim shall be like a mighty man, And their heart shall rejoice as if with wine. Yes, their children shall see it and be glad; Their heart shall rejoice in the LORD. (Zech 10:7)

I will whistle for them and gather them, For I will redeem them; And they shall increase as they once increased. (Zech 10:8)

“I will sow them among the peoples, And they shall remember Me in far countries; They shall live, together with their children, And they shall return. (Zech 10:9 NKJV)

I checked the Hebrew for “I will sow” which the NKJV translated as future tense, yet, the Hebrew is a vav-hahipuch, which flips the tense from future to past (yeah, it is one of those weird features of biblical Hebrew). It isn’t I WILL SOW… but I HAVE SOWN. This difference is huge! Other translations note this as well.

Though I have scattered them like seeds among the nations, still they will remember me in distant lands. With their children, they will survive and come home again to Israel. (Zech 10:9 NLV)

Though I had them planted among the peoples, they will keep me in mind in far countries: and they will take care of their children and will come back. (Zech 10:9 BBE)

We see that other translations also understand the Hebrew as I do…it had already happened. God had already scattered the house of Israel when the Assyrians took them away and they were sown into far countries. With this in mind, the next verse makes better sense:

I will also bring them back from the land of Egypt, And gather them from Assyria. I will bring them into the land of Gilead and Lebanon, Until no more room is found for them. (Zech 10:10)

We need to remember, Zechariah is AFTER the Babylonian captivity – the Jews are back in the land and where is the house of Israel? Back with Judah as many like to claim? NO!

They are OUT THERE among the nations where God scattered them. This is powerful proof that “Jew” does NOT include the house of Israel and that Jesus did indeed come to seek out the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
