Several years ago a few of us were traveling through Plymouth and were struck deep in our hearts about the foundation that was established by the Pilgrims and other early settlers. We can, in a sense, identify with them. We appreciate them for what they endured in order to bring about the religious freedom we have today. Years later an opportunity presented itself for us to purchase a piece of property right in the heart of the town of Plymouth. It seemed only fitting that we would own some property in the downtown area where we could be a service to the many people who come from all over the world. Soon we purchased a very old building a few blocks away from the original street where the pilgrims had settled, right in the middle of town! We rolled up our sleeves for the great task at hand and created a small storefront. It was small beginnings but the response was very rewarding. People loved our products: homemade clothing from natural fibers, our decorative beeswax candles, hand-forged ironwork, and our primitive furniture made from the 75-year-old shelving of the Sears Landmark building in Boston.

A few years later we expanded and became Common Sense Wholesome Food Market. Once again we had a wonderful response. Our customers enjoy the human-friendly environment perhaps bringing to mind a little the old general stores of long ago. We want people to feel comfortable and know that we care. We offer very nutritious foods and excellent lines of supplements. Our beeswax candles still grace the shelves. We now import them from Naphtali, our tribe in Brazil.

We also bought a historical house right around the corner on North Street, about ¼ of a mile from the waterfront, The Blue Blinds. The house was built in 1838 (the land originally owned by John Cooke who came over on the Mayflower). We are renovating the house and plan to open up a retail bakery storefront where we will sell a wide variety of fine breads.

Another 1 ½ miles north on Main Street (which eventually turns into Warren Ave.) we purchased a wonderful old house built by a family who owned and operated woolen mills in the early 1900s. It was later sold and turned into a nursing home. Our construction crew began the painstaking process of restoration. It was in much disrepair, but not without fond memories of when it was in all its glory. It is becoming a stunning site as many creative hands work together in unity. It clearly demonstrates what our woodworkers and carpenters are able to do, a showcase. It is beautiful. Above all it’s our hope that this dwelling place will be known for its hospitality.

As brothers and sisters we are committed to each other because of the love our Creator has put in our hearts. Our homes and our hearts are open to visitors. You are most welcome to come and see the life of love we experience. Come for a day or to stay… Of course stop in our market on Main Street, right next door to Sam Diego’s, or visit commonsensemarket.com
