Our Culture - Farming
Farms are a growing part of our life together — and not just because we want to have good, wholesome food for our families. There are lots of other benefits to farming. Working together in the fields in the early morning puts us in touch with our Creator and with each other. When our children help to raise plants and animals they learn things they could never get from books. Farming also gives us meaningful contact with a wide range of people. We learn secrets of local agriculture from old-timers who have spent their lives tied to the soil. And we often have visits from WWOOFers (Willing Workers on Organic Farms). Many of them are students, deeply troubled by modern society’s disregard for the earth, who want to learn a better way. And we’re happy to share with them what we’re learning about sustainable living — how to care for the land instead of draining and exploiting it — and how to care for each other.
